Tottenham end their campaign on Sunday, welcoming Leicester City to Wembley Stadium while Newcastle head back north to face Chelsea at St. James’ Park on the same day.
Newcastle certainly had their chances, with Jacob Murphy causing chaos on the left from the moment he was introduced. Their midfield was compact and organised, causing Spurs no end of trouble – but they were beaten by a moment of brilliance from one of the Premier League’s most productive strikers. Despite failing to win any points, Benitez should be happy with the effort and discipline his side showed.

Tottenham certainly didn’t look impressive for large spells, but they have managed to come away with all three points. Harry Kane got over his wasted opportunity in the first half well with a fantastic first-time finish from just inside the penalty area. The build-up play looked slow and lethargic at times, but they used their patience to dictate the tempo to their opponents.
Newcastle have one last free-kick just inside Tottenham's half. Shelvey’s delivery must be a good one…
The ball sails into the penalty area for a Newcastle player but a weak header is all that can be mustered – which Lloris grabs well. The referee blows his whistle for the final time tonight and Tottenham escape with a victory!
DeAndre Yedlin goes into the referee’s book after dragging down Lamela from behind after the Argentinian winger's nifty footwork gets him by the right-back.
The referee has indicated there will be an additional five minutes at the end of regulation time.
Rose is played through on goal by Eriksen, but with only Dubravka to beat, the wing-back sends his shot directly at the goalkeeper who makes a crucial stop to keep Newcastle in with a chance.

After a run of four consecutive Premier League victories, Newcastle have lost each of their last three.
Lamela is shown a yellow card after a cynical stamp on the foot of Joselu.
Victor Wanyama appears to have picked up a slight injury, and Danny Rose is on to replace him with three minutes left in the match.
Ritchie tries an audacious outside-of-the-boot cross which is cut out well by Sanchez. Possession returns to Newcastle who switch the attack to the other wing before the final ball is put out for a Lloris goal-kick following a poor attempt at goal.
Toby Alderweireld is sent on to replace Kieran Trippier who is indeed unable to play out the last seven minutes.
Trippier, shortly after returning to the pitch, has gone down again at a Lloris goal-kick and it looks as though he may be unable to continue.
Mohamed Diame is shown a yellow card for a challenge on Trippier during a scramble after a corner-kick. Play is stopped momentarily so Trippier can receive treatment for a knock on his ankle which has left him limping.
Pochettino responds with a change of his own, removing Son-Heung Min in favour of Erik Lamela.
Rafa Benitez makes his second substitution – also an attacking one – as Joselu comes on to replace Dwight Gale.

MURPHY’S IMPACT IS ALMOST IMMEDIATE! Jacob Murphy uses his pace to race down the left wing, beating Sanchez and turning into the penalty area. The winger then fires a shot from close range but it sails over the crossbar – much to the delight of Lloris.
Matt Ritchie is shown a yellow card by the referee for a crunching tackle in midfield.
Newcastle make the first substitution of the match, with Jacob Murphy coming on to replace Kenedy.
The corner amounts to nothing as the ball is met first by a Newcastle player. It is cleared deep and eventually comes to the foot of Lloris, who sends it right back for Son who is called for a foul following an aerial duel in midfield.
Lascelles puts his head in the way of Son’s foot and clears the ball for a Tottenham corner instead of allowing the forward to take a volleyed effort from an acute angle inside the penalty area.
With a half hour left to play, Newcastle’s players must be absolutely drained. They have been chasing shadows for most of the match, rarely getting a kick of the ball. Tottenham’s slow style today is now working to their advantage, as they are comfortably protecting their lead.
Son finds Kane in the penalty area but the striker is crowded out and the ball goes back to the midfield line. Tottenham recycle play and go forward once again, but the attack breaks down with a Dubravka save on a weak Alli shot taken from just inside the area.
