Barcelona reportedly communicates with Atlético de Madrid about the payment of Griezmann's release clause
On Tuesday afternoon, football fans were surprised with the news that Barcelona had already informed Atlético de Madrid about the payment of Antoine Griezmann's release clause to ensure his signing for the next season.
Immediate reactions in Spain were not expected, but the most surprising one came from Migue Ángel Gil Marín, advisor of the colchonero club, who strongly spoke about the 'Griezmann Case'.
"We are tired of Barcelona's attitude. For a president, a player, and a club executive to speak in the way they do about the future of a player with a valid contract and just a few days before playing a European competition final, I find it absolutely disrespectful towards Atlético de Madrid and all its fans," explained Gil Marín.
"We have not negotiated for Griezmann at any time and we have no intention of doing so. Personally, a few months ago, I informed the president of Barcelona that the player's rights are not for sale and we will not sell them," he added.
"Atlético de Madrid will demand the corresponding compensation for Barcelona's inappropriate conduct," he concluded.
At 27 years old, Griezmann has entertained the hypothesis of leaving Atlético in recent months, a club he joined in 2014. The French international forward stated that he would make a decision about his future before the World Cup.
On Monday, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu acknowledged for the first time that he had "coincidentally" crossed paths with Griezmann last summer during a vacation and had met with the player's entourage in October, without confirming any transfer. Something that would have made the 'Aleti' heads explode.
