Louis van Gaal pays homage to Andrés Iniesta

Louis van Gaal, the Dutch coach who led his national team and some of the world's most important clubs, paid tribute to Andrés Iniesta. The renowned European coach wrote a letter expressing his respect and admiration for the 33-year-old Spanish midfielder.

"When I was the coach of Barcelona, I always believed it was very important to give opportunities to young people. Every week, I watched the matches of the reserve team with my collaborators. I followed players like Iniesta, Xavi, Motta... With Andrés, I quickly thought he deserved a chance," van Gaal says in the emotional text released by "Marca".

Likewise, the Dutchman added: "I observed how he worked on the field. Also Xavi. Many people told me that they were the same, but I considered that Iniesta had more quality because tactically he was incredible. He could see before anyone else what needed to be done in tight spaces."

Meanwhile, the former Manchester United and Barcelona coach affirmed that the 'Brain' shared common characteristics with Lionel Messi. However, there was a special virtue that distinguished the Spaniard from the Argentine.

"You see Messi now, who is a very fast player, Andrés was also but in a different way. He has a great ability to dribble in the style of Leo, but in tight spaces he had more quality and speed of execution. And this quality was already observed in him at 17 years old."

Finally, Van Gaal emphasized the great personal quality that the Spanish footballer possessed: "I am very happy that Iniesta has had such a brilliant career. Not only because he is a great player, but because he is an excellent human being. And this is not easy in today's football world."
