Miguel Mejía Barón Declines Induction into FIFA Hall of Fame
Miguel Mejía Barón, current assistant coach of Ricardo Ferretti at Tigres, who was the coach of the Mexican national team in the 1994 World Cup in the United States, declined his induction into the FIFA Hall of Fame, arguing that he does it out of 'modesty'.
"I got to know what it feels like to be an usurper and/or imposter, one thing is to understand the definition and another is to profoundly conceive that emotion, I didn't like it, it's unpleasant. I need to decline this appointment and clarify that it is out of modesty, which is a position that I value, and at the same time make it clear that in no way is it false, it is genuine," the statement reads, issued by the Autonomous University of Nuevo León.
It was last Monday, April 16, when Mejía Barón learned that he would be inducted into the Hall of Fame, alongside Héctor Miguel Zelada, Fernando Bustos, Aarón Padilla and Arlindo Dos Santos, in the category of national footballers.
On the other hand, in the same statement released on Tigres' social media, the current assistant to Ferretti admitted that he has participated in ceremonies with great pleasure, as presenter for other figures that have been inducted.
"I have participated with great pleasure in this ceremony on several occasions, as presenter for some friends who were inducted, accepting it immediately with joy, it was very simple and completely different; I felt proud and enjoyed it very much," he said.
