LONDON - Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City, confirmed this Friday that Sergio Agüero will miss this weekend's Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur due to injury, although he is hopeful that "he will be ready for the last league matches and for the World Cup".

Agüero was not a starter last Tuesday in the second leg quarterfinal match of the Champions League against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, and Guardiola stated that the player did not recover in time from the tough tackle by Ashley Young in the Manchester derby last weekend.

"Agüero is injured. He was injured before the match (against Liverpool) and made a great effort to help us for 10 or 15 minutes. That's why he was not a starter," said the Spanish coach. "People talk a lot without knowing what happened before the match. He was not prepared," he said.

The 'Kun', who suffered a tough tackle to the ankle by Young in the final moments of the match against United (2-3 defeat), played 24 minutes in the Champions League match, although he had discomfort afterwards.

"He made a titanic effort after that tackle by Ashley Young and has problems in the knee. He couldn't train, played the last 15 or 20 minutes, and as he explained after the match, he had a lot of pain and couldn't run," commented Guardiola.

"I hope that, if we need him, he will be back and ready for our last league matches and for the World Cup," said the City coach.
