Minutes after knowing that Real Madrid will be their rival in the UEFA Champions League semifinals, Bayern Munich announced through social media that Niko Kovac will be the coach who will occupy the position that will be left by Jupp Heynckes at the end of the season. The Croatian, who currently manages Eintracht Frankfurt, will have his third experience as strategist in the Bavarian squad.
Heynckes' departure from the technical direction of the German institution at the end of the season was imminent, as he himself had stated that he had taken over the team's reins after Carlo Ancelotti's dismissal more as a favor and did not plan to continue next campaign. Given this, Kovac, along with Mauricio Pochettino and Ralph Hasenhüttl, were seen as possible replacements but the 46-year-old former player was finally chosen.
At the moment, the Berlin-born coach is having a very good campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt, occupying the fifth position in the Bundesliga with 46 points and exceeding the initial expectations. It is also worth mentioning that Bayern will be only the third experience that Kovac will have as a coach, having held that position in Croatia and Carlos Zambrano's former club.
