The Bayern Munich extends contract with Franck Ribéry
The German Bayern Munich will extend the contract of Frenchman Franck Ribéry until June 30, 2019, as reported by the specialized magazine Kicker on Thursday.
The offensive midfielder, who has just turned 35, will have to accept spending more time on the bench so that the young Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, currently loaned to Hoffenheim, can play, explained Kicker.
Ribéry, who arrived from Marseille in 2007, has been playing for the Bavarian club for 11 years and had been waiting for several weeks for a possible contract extension.
In addition to the Frenchman, the 34-year-old Dutchman Arjen Robben also hopes to be renewed.
"What matters is how they play. And both play exceptionally," said Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Saturday after the victory against Augsburg (4-1), which secured the sixth consecutive league championship for Bayern and the eighth for Ribéry.
Ribéry started on Wednesday in Bayern's draw at home against Sevilla (0-0), which qualified them for the Champions League semifinals. (D)
