Liverpool vs. Manchester City: Salah scores the first goal at Anfield for the Champions League [VIDEO]

Miercoles 04 de Abril del 2018

The Egyptian finished off a magnificent play by the 'Reds', who started the action from their own field.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah does it all, and he does it well. The trendsetting forward in Europe opened the scoring at Anfield after completing a great collective action by Liverpool, to get ahead against favorite Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.

Klopp's team started playing from the back, in the best 'tiki-taka' style, until the ball reached 'Mo' and the rest was history. The Egyptian player found Firmino, Ederson saved the Brazilian's shot, Walker failed to clear the ball, and the rebound fell to Salah, who scored with his left foot.

The match between the only two English survivors in the Champions League at this stage will represent the triumph of a football idea, between Jürgen Klopp's fast and furious style or Pep Guardiola's 'tiki-taka'.

While waiting for the continental clashes, the two coaches are exchanging compliments, demonstrating mutual respect between two men who are committed to attacking football and good play.

Twelve goals scored in two matches: in September, Manchester City thrashed Liverpool with a 5-0 scoreline, although Liverpool played most of the match with 10 players. In January, Klopp's team won 4-3, inflicting the only defeat on City in the Premier League this season.

In the English league, Guardiola's team has dominated in a tyrannical manner, to the point where they could become champions this Saturday... if they win the derby against Manchester United.

Liverpool, despite Mohamed Salah's 37 goals this season (29 in the league), is still 18 points behind, but they are still in the race for the runner-up position.

Manchester City is the last English club to reach the semifinals of the Champions League. They did it in 2016 under the guidance of Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini. Liverpool, on the other hand, will rely on the weight of their history; the Reds have five Champions League titles in their trophy cabinet, with the last one won in 2005.
