Universidad de Chile vs Racing Club | Preview

Universidad de Chile will host Racing Club in Santiago in a match that will decide the leader of Group 5 in the Copa Libertadores, a position currently shared by both teams after winning their first match in the series.

The 'U' comes into the game after defeating Vasco da Gama from Brazil at their home (0-1), while Racing Club crushed the Brazilian side Cruzeiro with a 4-2 victory in Buenos Aires, thanks to a hat-trick from Lautaro Martínez, the new gem of Racing's team.

The university team also comes with a streak of six consecutive wins and this weekend they also reached the top of the Chilean league table after defeating Audax Italiano away (2-3).

Argentine coach Ángel Guillermo Hoyos reserved some players in that match for the Copa Libertadores game, including international players Jean Beausejour and Venezuelan Yeferson Soteldo, two key players in the team.

Hoyos, however, is not overconfident: "Racing is an important team, they represent an evolution in Argentine football. They have very important players," said the coach.

"It will be extremely difficult, no matter how you look at it," he added, but he also highlighted his faith in his players: "They will face a great team and great teams face each other head-on. It's about not giving up on any ball," he emphasized.

"I'm going to go all out with what we have, I have a tremendous faith and trust in everything we have," he concluded.

Racing Club arrived in Santiago on Sunday and their coach, Eduardo Coudet, assured that his team "is in good shape", although still regretting the draw (2-2) of his players against Belgrano in the Argentine league.

"I have the feeling that we have a nice habit of winning, and every time we drop points, it will hurt us, which is good," he commented.

In the match against Belgrano, Coudet gave a rest to Lisandro López, one of the key players of the Avellaneda team.
