Yerry Mina at FC Barcelona: the modest club that wants his loan to consolidate him as a center-back [VIDEO]

Miercoles 07 de Marzo del 2018

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Don Balón', Yerry Mina could go out on loan in the summer transfer market due to the limited amount of playing time that Valverde gives him at FC Barcelona.

Yerry Mina arrived at FC Barcelona in January of this year with the idea of being a protagonist for the rest of the season. However, things are not going as he would have liked. He doesn't play much under Ernesto Valverde, and there are three indisputable players ahead of him in the starting eleven.

Gerard Piqué and Samuel Umtiti are fixed for 'Txingurri', and the immediate substitute is Thomas Vermaelen, who has been having his best season as a Barcelona player since his arrival in 2014. In that context, Mina would have no choice but to look for playing time elsewhere.

According to Spanish newspaper 'Don Balón', the modest Girona of the Liga Santander is one of the strong candidates to secure the services of Yerry Mina. The idea would be to loan him for a season, and upon his return to Camp Nou, he would be much more consolidated.

The loan attempt, as the cited source adds, would not displease Barcelona. In fact, they know at Camp Nou that the Colombian center-back cannot continue warming the bench for another season, and they would view loaning him to their Catalan counterparts as a positive option.

It is important to remember that a few days ago, Ernesto Valverde explained in a press conference why Yerry Mina had been left out of the recent call-ups.

"I have four center-backs now, and I usually take three in the list. The ones who have been playing are Gerard Piqué and Samuel Umtiti, and when Vermaelen has played, he has done well. What about Mina? He joined later. It's a way to organize the call-ups in which, depending on the matches, one player suits me better than another," said the coach of FC Barcelona.
