A NEW ERA IN SPANISH FOOTBALL STARTS
Over the years we have witnessed teams from the Santander League such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and others complaining about serious refereeing mistakes. Fortunately, these failures are now numbered as the implementation of VAR has been officially announced starting from the 2018-19 season.
La Liga Santander and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) made this announcement on Friday in an official statement to the media. It is also stated that only the approval of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) is pending.
VAR TRAINING UNDERWAY FOR SPANISH REFEREES
The referees and assistant referees of the Santander First Division have already begun the training, which includes studying the VAR protocol, practicing with simulators, and conducting video training through matches without any connection or communication with the stadiums.
They have also received their first lectures to ensure proper use, and they will continue to do so throughout the weekend. This is expected to prevent errors like Mateu Lahoz's in the Barcelona-Las Palmas match from happening again.
The statement also mentions that the Spanish Football Federation and La Liga Santander have agreed that the future Video Operations Center will be located at the Spanish Football Federation City in Las Rozas. Mediapro will be responsible for providing the technology.
