Bayern Munich's winning streak ends with a goalless draw against Hertha Berlin

Bayern Munich, the clear leader of the Bundesliga, ended their winning streak almost two months after consecutively winning game after game, by drawing 0-0 at home against Hertha Berlin (11) on Saturday in Matchday 24.

Since Jupp Heynckes took charge of the team at the beginning of October, Bayern had won 22 out of the 23 matches played before this Saturday, with the only exception of a 2-1 defeat in Monchengladbach on November 25th, in another German league match. Since that setback, they had won 14 consecutive games, considering all competitions.

Bayern entered this matchday with a 19-point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund. They now temporarily increase that margin to 20 points, before Dortmund hosts Augsburg (10) on Monday, with the possibility of reducing the gap to 17 points, a distance that still seems insurmountable in the remaining ten matchdays.

Despite not winning, the Munich team extended their advantage over third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt from 20 to 21 points, as Frankfurt lost 1-0 away against Stuttgart (12).

If Borussia Dortmund wins on Monday, they would already be 4 points ahead of Eintracht in the battle for the runner-up position, which seems to be the main point of interest for the rest of the German championship.

The goal drought for Bayern against Hertha comes just four days after their offensive display on Tuesday in the Champions League, where the Bavarian giants demolished Besiktas 5-0 in the same venue, thus paving their way to the quarterfinals of the major European tournament.

Hertha once again proved to be a thorn in Bayern's side: in the first leg, in the match played in Berlin, they also managed to secure a draw against the dominant team in the country, with a 2-2 result.

"We created chances, but if we want to win, we have to take advantage of them," admitted Austrian defender David Alaba.
