Counted seconds on the field after the expulsion of Máximo Banguera against General Díaz, last Tuesday, represent only the prelude to the appearance that goalkeeper Víctor Mendoza will have to fulfill in the second leg with the Paraguayans, for the Copa Sudamericana, on March 7.
"It's a great opportunity for which I have prepared," said the young goalkeeper yesterday.
Until then, in Luque (about 12 km from Asunción), Barcelona will have to face two matches in the national tournament: against Técnico Universitario, this Sunday (12:00), and Independiente del Valle, next week.
Asked about the need to have minutes on the field in the local championship in view of his upcoming international appearance, Mendoza responded that "whether or not I have minutes" he is always prepared for the next game, but that "before any other rival, Técnico comes first."
"I feel like I'm having my best year, I feel very motivated and happy," said the 23-year-old goalkeeper. (D)
