Spanish Police Clear West Bromwich Albion Players of Taxi Robbery Investigation
The regional police of Catalonia reported on Monday that no charges will be brought against the footballers, although the reasons for closing the investigation were not given.
Jonny Evans, Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore, and Boaz Myhill were accused by a taxi driver of stealing his vehicle early on Thursday morning.
"We admit and apologize for violating the required schedule (to be in the concentration), and we accept that it represents a violation of the professionalism standards that we must comply with as representatives of West Bromwich Albion," the players said in a statement on Friday.
West Brom was in Barcelona on a mid-winter training trip. The club is currently last in the Premier League, seven points away from the safety zone with 11 matches remaining in the season.
West Brom stated that the players "will be subjected to the utmost rigor of our internal disciplinary procedures".
