Argentine defender Nicolás Otamendi and Manchester City have reached an agreement to extend the contract that united the parties for two more seasons, now ending on June 30, 2022.

Nicolás Otamendi, who came from Valencia and signed a five-year contract with Manchester City in 2015, born on February 12, 1988, will be 34 years old at the end of the new deal between the parties.

"At the club, I am enjoying my experience since the first day I arrived. I am very happy to be able to stay here for two more years," said Nicolás Otamendi, according to statements provided by his club.

Nicolás Otamendi, who has played 118 official matches with Manchester City, has added a remarkable offensive contribution to his excellent defensive facet this season. "You always want to break your own records. When I played for Valencia, I scored six goals, and my goal is to reach that goal tally again, although my main objective is to defend, and if I can also score goals, that will be welcome," he said.

"The most important thing, as a player and as part of a team, is to help the team in the best possible way, giving my best," he added.

Nicknamed "The General," the Argentine defender leads the completed passes statistic in the Premier League, with 2,033 so far, almost 400 more than the next defender on the list. "I think I have an important role now because the center-backs have to participate in ball distribution from the back and make the team work in the best way," he said.

"Pep (Guardiola) has taught us how to do it. From the first day you work with him, you learn from him, and even at home, you still keep learning. Every movement, where you should position yourself, how you can receive the ball, all this information is in your brain, and it is very important for a player. I am very happy to play this style of soccer," he said.

The Argentine defender, a key player for his national team, believes that the most significant improvement he has had during this time is "in ball distribution, being able to find the right spaces and make the right pass." Source: EFE
