Kazuyoshi Miura, the oldest footballer in the world, renews his contract with Yokohama FC
Japanese forward Kazuyoshi Miura, known as "King Kazu," has extended his contract with Yokohama FC in his home country. He will turn 51 next February.
Miura expressed his happiness for renewing his bond with the team "without any problems" and stated that he still feels capable of helping the team "no matter the circumstances and keep growing." This upcoming season will be the 33rd of his career.
Kazuyoshi Miura began his professional football career in Brazil in 1986, when he debuted for Santos. After playing in the Brasileirao, he returned to Japan and played for different teams before joining Yokohama FC in 2006. He also had brief spells at Genoa in Italy, Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, and Sydney FC in Australia.
Records
In March 2007, Kazuyoshi Miura became the oldest footballer (50 years and seven days) to play a professional match, surpassing British player Stanley Matthews.
However, Miura still has one record to beat. He has yet to match the Guinness World Record held by Uruguayan Robert Carmona, who, at 55 years old, plays for Audax Orione in Italy.
