After two transfer windows without being able to sign players due to FIFA's sanction, Atlético de Madrid was finally able to present their two new players this Sunday: Spanish-Brazilian forward Diego Costa, who returns to the club, and Víctor 'Vitolo' Machín, who comes from Sevilla.

"I have prepared myself well and I am eager to play and help the team," said Diego Costa after being presented in front of more than 25,000 spectators at the Wanda Metropolitano, according to the club's numbers.

"I am ready to play with (Antoine) Griezmann, with (Fernando) Torres... I know there is a lot of competition and there is going to be a good fight" for the starting positions in the team's attack, added the striker.

Costa, 28 years old and 16 times capped for Spain, could not debut earlier due to the sanction imposed by FIFA on Atlético de Madrid for two transfer windows without being able to register players due to irregularities in the signing of foreign minors for the youth teams.

The player from Lagarto (in eastern Brazil) already played for Atlético from 2010 to 2014, when he was transferred to Chelsea, the club with which he won the Premier League twice (2015 and 2017). He now returns from Stamford Bridge for around 55 million euros (plus 10 in variables), according to the Spanish press.

On the other hand, winger 'Vitolo' left Sevilla last July after paying the 37.5 million euro buyout clause and, due to the impossibility of playing for Atlético immediately, he played the first half of the season on loan to his original club, Las Palmas.

Atlético de Madrid hopes that the arrival of these two players will put an end to the team's scoring problems, a deficit that caused their elimination from the Champions League in the group stage for the first time in the last five years.

This failure comes in a season where the Madrid team has debuted their brand new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano, with a capacity of 68,000 spectators.
