Boxing Day Matches
During the holiday season, football stops in most parts of the world. Just recently, we witnessed another edition of the Spanish Clasico where Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-0 at Santiago Bernabeu. La Liga, like many others, paused its activities.
The Premier League is the only one that will continue its activities with its traditional Boxing Day, which will take place on December 26th with two matches. One of them will feature the team of Mexican striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez.
What is Boxing Day?
This celebration dates back to the Middle Ages, when people of the upper class would give boxes with leftover food from Christmas, accompanied by other gifts, on December 26th.
By the 19th century, this day coincided with football matches and became a tradition in England. Until 1950, the matches were played on December 25th, but the date was changed to the 26th.
During times when Mexican teams are on vacation along with the rest of the leagues around the world, Boxing Day becomes a great option to enjoy a good football match.
Matches
When the English league schedule was announced, there were originally 10 matches programmed for this day, but in the end, there will only be eight:
A notable match is Bournemouth vs West Ham, where Mexican striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez will play and could have minutes on the field.
The rest of the schedule is as follows:
