Whole families in England flock to the stadiums to celebrate the particular Boxing Day every December 26th, a tradition from the United Kingdom that dates back to ancient times.

According to historians, it originated from the tradition of the faithful in England, who gave money to the needy every December 25th.

It is also said that its origin goes back to when employees or apprentices went to work with a box, where employers deposited extra pay.

Others explain that Boxing Day is because the bourgeoisie and the rich gave their servants boxes filled with leftovers from December 24th.

The first match played on Boxing Day was on December 26, 1860, between Hallam and Sheffield FC, one of the most remembered matches in history where the two fourth division teams managed to gather up to 50,000 fans in the stadium.
