Javier Aguirre: The main candidate to lead Las Palmas

Mexican coach Javier Aguirre is the main candidate to lead Las Palmas, which is currently facing relegation problems in the Spanish First Division.

The Mexican strategist is linked to recompose the situation of the Canary club, which is currently managed by Pako Ayestarán, who could be dismissed this Sunday if he loses against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Spanish press stated that "El Vasco" has already been contacted by Unión Deportiva Las Palmas and an agreement could be reached in the coming days, unless a surprise happens tomorrow at the Madrid stadium.

"The insular club has even contacted 'El Vasco', a coach who knows the League perfectly and has experience in critical situations, such as the one Las Palmas is facing," said the Marca newspaper.

Aguirre is an expert in saving clubs from relegation problems. In Spain, he did it with Osasuna and Zaragoza, and he also returned Atlético de Madrid to European positions. He also managed Espanyol in Barcelona quite well, which would make Las Palmas his fifth club on Iberian soil.
