Summer 2016: FC Barcelona's search for a substitute forward

In the summer of 2016, FC Barcelona was in search of a forward who could serve as a substitute for the MSN trio. However, most of the desired players did not accept the challenge. This was understandable considering the trident was indisputable under Luis Enrique. Nevertheless, Paco Alcácer decided to take on this role.

Kevin Gameiro's rejection and move to Atlético de Madrid

One of the players who rejected this possibility was Kevin Gameiro, who had been a key player for a successful Sevilla team. He then landed at Atlético de Madrid. Both players were transferred for around €30 million. The Frenchman had more playing time, scoring 16 goals in 46 matches. The Spaniard only played in 28 matches and scored 9 goals.

A similar situation for both players

Disparate numbers, different seasons for both players, but they currently find themselves in the same situation. The Frenchman is no longer in Diego Simeone's plans and has only played in 3 matches (the last one against Qarabag last Wednesday). On the other hand, the Spaniard has played in 4 matches (with only 8 minutes yesterday) and has been left out of many squads.

Potential moves in the winter transfer window

Both players are strongly linked with moves away from Spain in the winter transfer market. Currently, the former Sevilla player has more options, especially with the imminent arrival of Diego Costa. In the case of the Valencia-born forward, another striker would have to arrive at Camp Nou for him to consider a move.
