The Bayern Munich defeated Hamburg (0-1) with a goal by Frenchman Corentin Tolisso in the match in which it had the most difficulties since the return of Jupp Heynckes in the Bundesliga.

It was the third victory in three matches since Heynckes returned and this time, for the first time, with Colombian James Rodríguez as a starter, although the former Real Madrid player was substituted at halftime.

The Bayern Munich is now tied with Borussia Dortmund, which remains the leader of the Bundesliga due to a better goal difference.

Heynckes made 5 changes compared to the team that started the match in the victory against Celtic 3-0 last Wednesday.

Rafinha entered as right back instead of Joshua Kimmich, Nicklas Süle replaced Jerome Boateng in the center of the defense, in the midfield Sebastian Rudy and Thiago Alcántara gave way to Tolisso and Arturo Vidal, and further forward James Rodríguez took the position of Thomas Müller.

Hamburg came out with the intention of pressing Bayern Munich in the midfield and managed to hinder the ball circulation of the Bavarian team. Arjen Robben and Kingsley Coman didn't find spaces to overflow on the wings and Robert Lewandowski had to drop back to look for the ball in the center of the field.

Throughout the first half, Bayern Munich had only one clear chance, in the feet of Robben, who shot outside the net from a very tight angle after receiving a depth pass from Coman.

After the first half an hour of play, there was even a phase in which Bayern Munich had difficulties to get out of their own half and Hamburg generated some goal situations and several corner kicks in their favor.

Right in that phase, Bayern Munich tried a counterattack, with a deep pass from Robben to Coman that midfielder Gideon Jung cut with a foul that earned him a direct red card.

The numerical inferiority of Hamburg contributed to Bayern playing more in the opposite half and in the 52nd minute, they managed to break the deadlock through Corentin Tolisso.

The play originated with a cross from David Alaba from the left that the Hamburg defense failed to control and fell to the feet of Thomas Müller, who passed the ball to Tolisso for an easy goal.

Müller, who had been on the field for 6 minutes after replacing James, had to leave the field almost immediately after the goal with a thigh injury and Thiago came in.

Hamburg had a clear chance, with a shot from Aaron Junt in the 54th minute that Sven Ullreich deflected to a corner kick, but in the second half Bayern Munich had enough chances to score at least one more goal.

A shot from Thiago hit the post, just like a header from Tolisso. Robben missed a one-on-one with goalkeeper Christian Mathenia and in another chance he shot over the goal from a good position.

In the 90th minute, Robert Lewandowski missed the best chance by shooting off target from a pass from Coman.
