Diego Lainez shines in Mexico's debut

Diego Lainez, who was recently named by a prestigious English media outlet as one of the 60 most important promises in current football, responded to this praise in Mexico's debut in the U17 World Cup being held in India.

The skillful midfielder from América was very involved during the 90 minutes he played at Yuva Bharati Kiriranga in Calcutta, where Mexico managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against Iraq.

Diego started as a left midfielder, where he immediately began to cause danger with his dribbles and crosses into the box, and he did the same when he was switched to the right side.

The 17-year-old player is one of the few elements that make up the team led by Raúl Arteaga and he didn't give up after Iraq took the lead with a surprising goal, showing composure and attempting long-range shots to equalize the match.

His performance and danger caused so much confusion among the Asian team that they decided to double mark him to prevent him from causing even greater danger. In the end, he was rewarded by his own team as the player of the match.

Lainez has played three games in the current Apertura 2017 with América, starting as a starter in one of these matches and accumulating 110 minutes under the management of Miguel Herrera.

It is expected that, along with the talent of the rest of the team, Lainez will continue to perform at a high level in the upcoming matches against Chile and England in the group stage.
