Ousmane Dembélé to undergo surgery in Helsinki

Barcelona's French forward Ousmane Dembélé, who was injured on Saturday in the 2-1 victory against Getafe, will undergo surgery on Tuesday in Helsinki for a rupture of the left hamstring tendon, the blaugrana club announced on Monday.

"First-team player Ousmane Dembélé traveled to Helsinki this morning accompanied by Dr. Ricard Pruna. The player will be operated on tomorrow, Tuesday, by Dr. Sakari Orava for the rupture of the left hamstring tendon," Barcelona said.

According to images published by the Marca newspaper, Dembélé arrived at Barcelona's airport in a wheelchair, to board a plane heading to the Finnish capital.

Dembélé was injured on Saturday in the 25th minute of the 2-1 victory on Getafe's pitch. He got injured by himself, after striking the ball with his heel near the corner to prevent it from going out.

In the starting lineup for the second consecutive game, after making his debut in the 3-0 victory against Juventus at the start of the Champions League, the French international had to be replaced in the 27th minute by Spanish player Gerard Deulofeu.

Dembélé, 20 years old, for whom Barcelona paid 105 million plus variables (42 million) to Borussia Dortmund, has the difficult mission of making fans forget about Brazilian Neymar.

This is the first serious injury in the player's career and it comes at the worst possible moment, as he was starting to establish himself in the blue and garnet attack alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. Now he will miss the entire group stage of the Champions League.
