FC Barcelona receives Betis in the beginning of the Spanish League at a secure Camp Nou
In the wake of the attacks that shook Catalonia on Thursday, causing 14 deaths and dozens of injuries, FC Barcelona will host Betis on Sunday in what will be the city's first major football event.
"These are extraordinary and unfortunate circumstances, and we stand in solidarity with all the victims of the attacks," said Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde on Saturday.

"We have to face these circumstances together, and the best way to do it is to move forward," added Valverde, who had started his training on Friday with a minute of silence in memory of the victims.
It was one of many acts of tribute and solidarity that have multiplied since Thursday, when a van plowed into a crowd on Las Ramblas in Barcelona, resulting in 13 deaths and dozens of injuries. Another person died in Cambrils in another attack carried out by five alleged jihadists who were shot by the police.
Flags fly at half-mast in the club's facilities, including Camp Nou Stadium, which will host the match against Betis on Sunday amidst heightened security measures.
"Large backpacks or suitcases will not be allowed inside," said Albert Oliva, spokesperson for the Catalan regional police, reminding everyone that handbags and small backpacks will be checked.
The police spokesperson added that there will be "more police visibility around the perimeter of the stadium and the possibility of sporadic checks on people and vehicles entering the stadium," recommending that fans arrive early.

Similar measures were taken on Saturday for the other match in the Catalan First Division between newly-promoted Girona and Atletico Madrid, where concrete barriers were even placed in the access streets to the stadium to prevent vehicle passage.
"Given the increase in dangerous situations, terrorism, etc., the club has already implemented high-level security measures," said a spokesperson for Barça, stating that on Sunday they will apply all possible measures for accessing the stadiums and FC Barcelona matches.
Soccer players from FC Barcelona, who already showed their repulsion for the attacks on social media on Thursday, will step onto the Camp Nou field wearing black armbands as a sign of mourning.

They will not wear their names on their shirts, but instead "Barcelona" as a symbolic demonstration of unity, and together with the club's crest, they will display the slogan "#TotsSomBarcelona (We are all Barcelona)."
The match, like all other matches in this first round of the league, which is being mourned due to the tragic events in Barcelona and Cambrils, will begin with a minute of silence in memory of the victims.
Barça, which will face a "brave" Betis team, as warned by Valverde on Saturday, hopes to offer a victory to its fans and fellow citizens as another way to pay tribute to the city and the attack victims.
