French Professional Football League Holds Minute of Silence for Barcelona and Cambrils Attacks

The French Professional Football League (LFP) will observe a minute of silence today before the start of the matches in the first and second divisions, in memory of the attacks that took place yesterday in the Spanish cities of Barcelona and Cambrils.

In a statement, the league specified that the tribute will take place "in all football stadiums" as a symbol of solidarity with the victims of the tragedy, which has left 14 dead, 5 terrorists killed, and over a hundred injured.

Many football players from the French league have expressed their condolences on social media.

Neymar, recently transferred to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from Barcelona, also extended his words of encouragement to "all the families" on his official Twitter account.

The football team from Nice, a city which was a victim of a similar attack in July 2016, declared themselves "traumatized once again by the Barcelona attack" and expressed their support to all those affected and their loved ones.

A van ploughed into dozens of people as they walked along La Rambla, one of Barcelona's most iconic and crowded streets. In Cambrils, six pedestrians, one of whom died today, were run over by five terrorists who were then neutralized by the police.
