Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane "very upset" about Cristiano Ronaldo's five-game ban
Zinedine Zidane, coach of Real Madrid, lost his usual smile and was "very upset" about Cristiano Ronaldo's five-game ban, which he considers disproportionate to what happened in Camp Nou, and after that he said "something is going on" against his interests.
"I am very upset because in the end I won't criticize the referees, but when you look at everything that happened, to think that Cristiano will not play five games with us ... oh man, something is going on there," he denounced. "I am upset about this, like everyone else, because with few things it is a lot of punishment for him," he added.
Zinedine Zidane had never given a press conference at Real Madrid with such a serious face and showing his discontent in this way. There wasn't even one of his usual smiles in his appearance on any of the topics he addressed, showing his anger at losing Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I have been very clear in my response, when you look at what happened, at the end of it all and you say Cristiano has been given five games, it is a lot. Nothing else. I hope they look at it because they are going to meet and they should really look at it. I am upset when I see what they want to do to Cristiano for what happened," he said, asking for the Appeals Committee to study what happened and the appeal submitted by Real Madrid.
Aware of the strength of his words, the French coach did not want to delve into what he thinks is behind the sanction. "I do not know what is going on or what is going to happen, I am showing what I feel right now, after having watched the game again and it is normal. How could I not be upset? I do not get involved in the referee's job, which is complicated, I can also make mistakes, but when at the end of the day I see that it's five games ... it's a lot considering what happened."
Zidane acknowledged that Cristiano Ronaldo "is upset because he wants to play and when he doesn't play he is not happy" and did not want to comment on whether he believes there is animosity towards the Portuguese player. "I don't know, I hope not, that people do it with consciousness and do their job, but in the end I am left with a sanction and what happened is not that significant. Today we are upset thinking that Cristiano will not be with us for a long time.
