The Chelsea, the current Premier League champion, fell at home to humble Burnley 3-2, despite a goal from Spanish international Álvaro Morata, in what is the big surprise of the first round of the English championship.
At Stamford Bridge, the match was marked by the expulsions of the local players Gary Cahill (14 ') and Spanish Cesc Fábregas (82'), and by the debut as a scorer and assistant in the Premier League of Álvaro Morata, who played the last half-hour.
Only 10 minutes after the first expulsion, the visitors took the lead thanks to Sam Vokes's goal (24'). Burnley continued their exhibition with defender Stephen Ward's goal (39') and rounded off the provisional rout just before half-time with Vokes' second goal (43').
From there came Morata's turn, who came on the field in the 58th minute to replace Belgian Michy Batshuayi and scored his first goal for the Blues 11 minutes later (69') with a precise header after a cross from the left by Brazilian Willian.
In the final stretch, with Chelsea attacking despite the double yellow card expulsion of Fábregas (82'), the Spanish forward assisted with a header for the goal by Brazilian defender David Luiz (88').
