Morocco presents its candidacy to host the 2026 World Cup

Morocco presented its candidacy to FIFA to host the 2026 World Cup, announced today the federation of the African country.

Morocco made its candidacy official shortly before the deadline. FIFA, the organizer of the World Cup, announced in May that countries interested in competing with the joint candidacy of the United States, Mexico, and Canada had three months to apply.

In recent months, there has been speculation about a possible candidacy from Morocco. However, the North American candidacy seems to be the favorite to organize the first XXL World Cup, which will increase the number of participants from 32 to 48.

The only World Cup held in Africa so far was the 2010 edition, which had South Africa as its host.

The editions of 2018 and 2022 will be held in Qatar and Russia, respectively.

The decision on the host for the 2026 World Cup will be made at the FIFA congress to be held in Moscow next year.
