Tremendous controversy arose over the presence of Florent Malouda in the starting eleven of French Guiana against Honduras in the Gold Cup. In response to the uncertainty, CONCACAF finally pronounced on the issue, based on FIFA's regulations.
In an official statement, CONCACAF determined that French Guiana loses to Honduras due to the irregular alignment of Florent Malouda, who played for the French national team in the 2006 Germany and 2010 South Africa World Cups.
Despite previous warnings, Florent Malouda was included in the starting lineup of French Guiana against Honduras in the match played at BBVA Compass in Houston, Texas. With CONCACAF's decision, Jorge Luis Pinto's 'catrachos' obtain 3 points in the table with a score of 3-0 in their favor.
With CONCACAF's decision, Honduras comes back to life in their group in the Gold Cup and can pose a challenge to both Canada and Costa Rica. Meanwhile, French Guiana paid a high price for the inclusion of Florent Malouda and will have to recover the point they obtained against the 'catrachos'.
