Sporting Lisbon announced on Wednesday the loan for one season of Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid. The Portuguese left back didn't have continuity in Zinedine Zidane's scheme due to injuries and the undisputed ownership of Brazilian Marcelo.
"Sporting Portugal has come to an agreement with Real Madrid for the loan of Fabio Coentrao for the 2017/2018 season," said the Portuguese institution on their website. The 29-year-old footballer posted on his Twitter account that he is "very happy to be able to play for this great club."
He will reunite with Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus at Sporting Lisbon, with whom he already coincided at Benfica for four seasons, including a league championship (2010). The defender's contract with Real Madrid, where he arrived in the summer of 2011, ends in June 2019.
