Manchester City announces signing of Fabian Delph from Aston Villa
The Manchester City has announced through a statement the signing of English midfielder Fabian Delph, from Aston Villa, until June 2020.
Delph, 25, who has been capped six times for the English national team, underwent a medical examination this Friday and will travel to Australia over the weekend to join his new team's training camp.
The midfielder, who will wear the number '18', started his career at Leeds United, where he made his debut in 2006, before signing for Aston Villa three years later.
In Birmingham's team, which has confirmed that City paid the player's release clause but not the amount disbursed, Delph played 128 matches, scoring six goals.
"Fabian is an excellent player and I am looking forward to working with him. He has been very important for Aston Villa in recent seasons and is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League," said City's coach, Manuel Pellegrini, in a statement published on the club's website.
"He has a lot of energy and is very technical. The fact that he has become a regular in England shows how much he has progressed in recent years. He is only 25 years old, the best is yet to come," added the Chilean.
Delph is the second signing of City, the second-placed team in the 2014/2015 Premier League, for the upcoming season, along with his compatriot Raheem Sterling, who arrived from Liverpool for £49 million (€68 million).
