The Argentine Ángel di María agrees to pay 2.3 million euros to avoid prison

The Argentine Ángel di María, former Real Madrid player, has reached an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office and the State Attorney to pay more than two million euros and avoid entering prison, according to sources from the Prosecutor's Office. He had defrauded 1.3 million euros for his image rights.

Madrid court announces agreement between State Attorney and Ángel di María

A Madrid court announced on Wednesday the agreement between the State Attorney and the defense of the football player after admitting the two tax evasion offenses in 2012 and 2013 for which he had been accused in December of last year along with two other former Real Madrid players.

Ángel di María will have to pay the agreed amount plus the corresponding fines, although in his statement to the court in March 2017 he had already anticipated the payment of 1.45 million euros.

Like other football players investigated by the prosecution, Di María had several image rights transfer contracts in force in Spain in the years in which he should have paid taxes, in different companies based outside that country.

The Portuguese representative Jorge Mendes is involved in several companies through which, according to the Spanish prosecution, other football players have also evaded taxes related to their image rights.

Coach José Mourinho and football players Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao, and Fabio Coentrao, all accused of tax fraud in Spain, also work with the Portuguese businessman.
