Barcelona (1st) thrash Osasuna (20th) 7-1
Barcelona (1st) thrashed Osasuna (20th) 7-1 on Wednesday in the 34th round, with braces from Leo Messi, André Gomes, and Paco Alcácer, sinking the bottom-placed team and placing themselves at the top of the table, waiting to see what Real Madrid does.
Messi opened the scoring with a chipped ball over goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu (12), before Portuguese André Gomes made it 2-0 and Roberto Torres reduced the distance from a direct free-kick (47).
Gomes made it 3-1 by finishing off a rebound in the area (58) and shortly after, Messi scored the 4-1 (61), before leaving to a great ovation from Camp Nou, and letting Paco Alcácer make it 5-1 (64).
Javier Mascherano scored the 6-1 from the penalty spot (68) and Alcácer closed the scoring after a sprint and beating Sirigu (85).
The victory for Barcelona, who played with several substitutes, allows them to temporarily take the lead of the league, with a three-point advantage, waiting to see what Real Madrid does in the last match of the day against Deportivo La Coruña.
The defeat, on the other hand, sinks Osasuna even more, who could confirm their relegation to the Second Division on Wednesday if Leganés (17th) win against Las Palmas (12th).
