Silver medal for Mexican divers in the Diving World Series

The silver medal obtained in the Diving World Series, held in Windsor, Canada, is a parameter for Rommel Pacheco and Jahir Ocampo to qualify for the World Championships in Budapest, and to go in search of the podium, which they already achieved at the 2013 edition in Barcelona.

"That medal could have been gold, but we have the satisfaction of having won a medal in an international event. I think about the goal for each year and in 2017 is the World Championships, and obviously being there, we have to fight for the medals. We have started the Olympic cycle well, it is a step and we have to finish well with the upcoming events," said Jahir Ocampo.

Meanwhile, Pacheco mentioned that the synchronized work is on the right track, and now they just need to define details in the individual aspect.

"I also had a very good semifinal in the individual event, ahead of all the other divers, and that is important because the national competition is coming up. We had a long rest period after the Rio 2016 Olympics, and everything is a process, so we have to regain the basics. It is a matter of maturing the start and that will help me to get better scores," said Rommel.

Ocampo has not competed individually this year, but it is not something that worries the diver. In the four stages of the Diving World Series, he only had the right to participate in synchronized diving, because in Rio de Janeiro he only competed in that event.

"I still need to get a competitive rhythm in the individual event, but I am constantly preparing to reach a good level for the competition. In the Diving World Series, certain rules were changed which prevented me from entering just like that," said Jahir.

The divers are strong candidates to secure those spots for the World Championships, which will take place from July 14 to 30. However, they are aware that a surprise factor could arise.

"We will have to secure the tickets, however, these events tend to be complicated with the new rising stars," said Pacheco.
