Atlético Madrid Fails Penalties Again

Atlético Madrid wasted two penalties this Saturday against Osasuna at Vicente Calderón stadium. The first was taken by Yannick Carrasco and the second by Thomas Partey. This season, Atlético has missed a total of eight penalties, with six of them being in the Liga competition.

Neither Carrasco nor Thomas were able to beat Italian goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu in this skill, which has become a problem for Atlético this season. They have already missed another six penalties: Kevin Gameiro in Copa del Rey against Barcelona; Antoine Griezmann in Champions League against Bayern and in Liga against Valencia and Leganés; Fernando Torres against Celta; and Gabi Fernández against Valencia.

Out of thirteen penalties, only five have ended up as goals. Gameiro has scored two, one against Alavés in the first match of the Liga, and one against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League quarterfinals. Fernando Torres, Griezmann, and Saúl Ñíguez have each scored one goal as well.

"It was a moment where I wanted to take the penalty, I wanted to score, but in the end, the goalkeeper saved it well. I have to keep working," said Thomas in the mixed zone at Calderón. When asked if someone was telling him to take that penalty, he replied, "At that moment, I wasn't listening to anything."
