Ultramarathon runner Nahila Hernandez prepares for the main challenge of the year

Ultramarathon runner Nahila Hernandez is preparing for the main challenge of the year, which will be to conquer the Sparthathlon 2017, where she will try to finish this 246-kilometer race in less than 36 hours, with 70 cutoff points.

Nahila will have another challenge two weeks after this event, the Maratón des Sables, in which she will participate alongside triathlete Rafa Jaime, as they will attempt to make him the first blind person to cross 250 kilometers of the Sahara Desert.

"This year has been crazy. In the first days of January, while I was on vacation in Germany, I confirmed the possibility of participating in The World Marathon Challenge, with the detail that I had less than 15 days to show up in Punta Arenas, Chile and embark on this adventure. It wasn't a race that I had on my schedule, and I was on vacation jogging 8 to 12 kilometers a day, but I knew I couldn't miss the opportunity to participate in this event," said Hernandez San Juan.

During this competition, Nahila set a world record, as she managed to run 7 ultramarathons of 50 kilometers in seven days, covering a total of 350 kilometers in seven cities.

"We started on January 23 in Antarctica, 24 in Punta Arenas (South America), 25 in Miami (North America), 26 in Madrid (Europe), 27 in Marrakech (Africa), 28 in Dubai (Asia), at this point we were all destroyed, and finally on January 29 in Sydney (Australia). The race is crazy, you eat only on planes, change clothes at airports, 'sleep' on the plane, and go from -20 degrees Celsius to over 35 degrees," commented the ultramarathon runner.

After finishing the Maratón des Sables, Nahila will prepare to conquer the Sparthathlon, which "has given me butterflies in my stomach, since it is one of the most emblematic races in the ultra world and also because it represents a great challenge for me due to the distance-speed mix."

The Sparthathlon will take place on September 29th and 30th, a challenge that the ultramarathon runner hopes to conquer, as in the previous edition she was not chosen to compete, despite meeting all the requirements, as very few places are given to foreigners.
