Darwin Núñez scored for the third consecutive game and led Liverpool to the quarterfinals of the League Cup at the expense of Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth (3-1), who can now focus on their true objective of the season: avoiding relegation.

In their visit to the south coast of England, Liverpool, who took the lead through Cody Gakpo but conceded the equalizer from a poorly defended corner, needed a moment of brilliance from Darwin to secure their presence among the eight best teams in the cup competition.

With a mix of starters and substitutes, Jurgen Klopp, formerly known for attaching little importance to these cups, went out to win at the Vitality Stadium and the 'Reds' took the lead in the 30th minute when Harvey Elliott hit a volley from outside the box that was deflected by Gakpo for Ionut Radu to save with his body.

The rebound went back to the Dutchman, who only had to tap the ball in to put Liverpool ahead. With the game under control against one of the worst teams in the Premier League, and who didn't get their first win until last Saturday against Burnley, Liverpool defended very poorly a corner, leaving Justin Kluivert alone at the far post and the Dutchman made it 1-1.

Twenty minutes away from penalties, Trent Alexander-Arnold played a deep pass to Darwin, who received it near the sideline, advanced towards the center, and launched a shot over the goalkeeper that could be the goal of the day.

The goal by the Uruguayan, who has scored in three consecutive games in less than a week, sealed the victory and allows the 'Reds' to remain alive in all competitions; Iraola and his Bournemouth team return to thinking about the Premier League and the fight against relegation.
