Manchester City has finally achieved the dream of winning the Champions League. A goal by Spanish player Rodrigo Hernández in the 68th minute allowed the English team to break the curse that haunted them in Europe and defeat Inter Milan 1-0 in the final in Istanbul.
In a match where City, clearly the favorite, struggled and lost their key player Kevin de Bruyne to injury in the first half, coach Pep Guardiola also won his first Champions League away from Barcelona, where he had previously won titles in 2009 and 2011.
I'm very excited. This is a dream come true," said Rodri in an interview with BT Sports after the match. "These guys (his teammates) deserve it, as well as those people (the fans) who have been waiting for twenty, thirty or forty years. I've been here for four years, we deserve it," he said.
"What a team we had to face! It's incredible how they defended and counterattacked, they deserve to be congratulated because they are a great team," he said.
"I didn't perform well in the first half, I played like shit, honestly, but this proves our mentality. I told myself that we had to overcome this situation and in the end I scored a goal. It's incredible," he concluded.
