The Christian Eriksen Story: A Miracle on the Soccer Field
In 2021, Danish player Christian Eriksen shocked the world when he suffered a severe collapse after his heart stopped during a Eurocup match against Finland. Fortunately, the footballer still lives to tell this terrible nightmare.
Last weekend, the Laureus Awards ceremony took place in Paris, where Eriksen was awarded the World Comeback of the Year prize. He currently plays for Manchester United, the team that became English league champions and hopes to win a second title when they face City in the FA Cup final on June 3rd.
One of the most intense moments during the gala was the projection of the video of the precise moment when Eriksen collapsed and was carried off the field covered in sheets. Despite the uncomfortable nature of the moment, Christian publicly shared how he felt when he saw the video for the first time.
"I saw it almost the day after, just to see what happened and overcome all the emotions and prepare for what was to come. But it never gets easier. You watch it and then you don't really think about what it is. You just look at it and that's it," he commented.
Furthermore, he added, "What I have personally learned is to enjoy while you're here and enjoy whatever comes and play football if it's fun. And if it's not fun, do something else."
Eriksen and his gratitude to Inter
At the time of the incident, Eriksen was part of Inter's squad. One of the decisions he had to make was to leave the club due to Serie A's rules. "For me, the first goal was to come back and be a full-time father and boyfriend. I knew that in Italy there were many rules that could prevent me from playing, and leaving Inter was the only option. I will always be grateful to Brentford and Thomas Frank for giving me the opportunity to come back and be their footballer. I am lucky," he concluded.
