Manchester United reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday after a 1-0 victory over Betis in the second leg of the continental competition at Benito Villamarin.
A long-range shot from Marcus Rashford (56) ended Betis' hopes of overturning the 4-1 defeat from the first leg at Old Trafford, after a match in which the Andalusian team showed intention but lacked precision.
The Verdiblancos, missing the injured Nabil Fekir, started the game pressing a United side that tried to control the match but faced pressure from the opponent in the early minutes of the first half.
Juanmi had the chance to open the scoring early on, but his shot went wide of the post (8) and shortly after, captain Joaquin almost surprised goalkeeper David de Gea with a long-range shot that hit the post (11).
Betis had more chances, but De Gea's excellent performance prevented them from scoring, as he won a one-on-one against Juanmi when the Betis striker was practically alone (32).
United, who eliminated Barcelona in the previous round, gradually relieved the pressure from the hosts and almost scored just before halftime with a shot from Facundo Pellistri that hit the post (45+2).
Just like in the first leg, the halftime break activated United, who took control of the game and pushed Betis back into their own half.
Rashford, who had missed a clear chance against Rui Silva (54), made up for it with a long-range shot that the Betis goalkeeper couldn't stop (56).
The goal was a blow for Betis, who fought to win the match but were surpassed by a United side that dominated the game.
