Israeli Army Kills Palestinian Football Player during Clashes in Nablus
During armed confrontations in the city of Nablus, in the West Bank, the Israeli army killed a 23-year-old player.
Ahmad Atef Daraghmeh, player of Thaqafi Tulkarem in the West Bank Premier League, died at the hands of the Israeli army during armed confrontations in the city of Nablus, in the northern part of the West Bank.
According to information provided by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the 23-year-old football player died on Thursday night after being shot multiple times by Israeli troops in the back and foot.
The Israeli occupation army stated in a press release that they carried out an assault in Nablus under the pretext of "ensuring coordinated entry of Jews to the tomb of Joseph," a site that Jews believe contains the remains of the biblical patriarch, revered by Palestinians as the Prophet Yusuf.
The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) mourned the death of Ahmad Atef Daragmah, a key player in the promotion achieved by Thaqafi Tulkarem last season and scorer of six goals in the current West Bank championship.
"Our condolences to the family, friends, and teammates of Palestinian football player Ahmad Atef Daragmah (23), who was tragically shot and killed this week in Nablus. Rest in peace Ahmed," they wrote on their social media platforms.
