Nayef Aguerd limped out of Morocco’s World Cup clash with Spain in what could turn out to be a big blow for the Hammers.
The centre-back made a fine recovery from a pre-season injury and we can only hope he won’t join Kurt Zouma in what we pray is not another long-term injury.
Hammers hopes have been raised by his fine form in the World Cup where he has been vital for his country at the tournament, as they came through a group also comprised of Belgium, Croatia, and Canada. 
Their progression booked a last-16 clash with Spain, who finished second behind Japan in their group.
Aguerd was injured in a challenge around the 80th minute and was substituted, limping out of the game and shaking his head. Not a good sign and it is wel known that groin injuries are among the most difficult.
It remains to be seen if Aguerd has sustained a serious injury, but he is one of his country’s best players, and one has to think he would have done everything to stay on the pitch.
The referee initially signalled for a stretcher and it is perhaps a good sign that the defender was able to walk off the pitch, rather than being carried.
Morocco were dogged against a Spanish side who have underwhelmed in Qatar, taking them into extra time after a 0-0 draw in 90 minutes. The game ultimately went to penalties and Morocco won 3-0 in the shootout.
