England defeated Iran 6-2 at the start of the second day of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The team led by Harry Kane outperformed their Iranian counterparts, who were involved in more than one remarkable incident in yesterday's match. After remaining silent during their national anthem, the Iranian players suffered a misfortune when their goalkeeper was injured in the 13th minute of the first half.

What happened to the Iranian goalkeeper?
The Iranian goalkeeper could not recover after colliding with his own teammate. Indeed, goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand ended up with a completely broken nose; despite insisting on continuing to play, he decided to request a substitution because he felt dizzy.
In this way, his place was taken by goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini; however, the replacement for the injured goalkeeper could not withstand the English machine and was beaten six times.

Why didn't the Iranian team sing their national anthem?
The Iranian team did not sing their national anthem as a protest against the repression carried out by the Iranian theocratic regime. In addition, the fans booed the anthem due to the killings committed by the dictatorship.
During a press conference days before the match against England, Iranian defender Ehsan Hajsafi expressed his concern about the political crisis and said that he hoped his team could be a voice for the people.
"We have to accept that the conditions in our country are not right and that our people are not happy. We are here, but that does not mean that we should not be their voice. I hope that the conditions change according to the expectations of the people," he said, without directly mentioning the riots.
