Tottenham forward Son Heung-min confirms his presence with South Korea in Qatar 2022.
South Korean forward Son Heung-min from Tottenham announced on Wednesday on his Instagram account that he will participate in the 2022 World Cup, which begins in less than two weeks, despite his orbital fracture against Marseille in the Champions League earlier this month.
"Playing for your country in the World Cup is the dream of many children, like it was mine. I won't miss that for anything in the world. I am very excited to represent our beautiful country. See you soon," he wrote in a message thanking fans for their messages after his injury.
Son underwent surgery last week to "consolidate a fracture around his left eye" caused by a collision with Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba in Tottenham's 2-1 victory in France.
His participation in the World Cup seemed very doubtful at that time, despite the precedent of Kevin de Bruyne, who had suffered the same injury shortly before the 2021 Euro and was finally able to play from the second match of his group.
Captain of the national team, where he has played 106 matches and scored 35 goals, Son is a true idol in his country, leading them to victory in the Asian Games in 2018.
However, the South Korean will not play for Tottenham again, who are currently fourth in the Premier League, as they will face Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on Wednesday and then Leeds in the English league this weekend before releasing their players.
South Korea is part of Group H and will debut against Uruguay on November 24, before facing Ghana and then Portugal.
