The 'Reds' want to recover lost ground in the tournament and came out with everything to face the 'Hammers'. In fact, the dominance they exerted on the field was only reflected in the 22nd minute through an action that was set up on the flank.
Virgil Van Dijk left the back of the defense to reach the midfield. The central defender from the Netherlands was key for Konstantinos Tsimikas not to have problems with ball possession. In fact, the Liverpool defender signaled to the Greek player to combine in the middle with Thiago Alcántara.
When the midfielder had the ball in his possession, he moved to the opposite side to find an option on the opposing wing. But, the former Bayern Munich player took a few extra seconds to decide better. Thus, the Spanish player saw Tsimikas' run down the sideline.
In that place, Darwin Núñez arrived from behind. The Uruguayan jumped between the West Ham central defenders to connect with his head. The ball, after the impact on the former Benfica player, bounced on the grass so that goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was not able to deflect it.
The 'charrúa' footballer scored three goals in four matches: against Arsenal and West Ham in the Premier League and Rangers in the Champions League. He only failed to score against Manchester City in the previous round of the English competition.
