A historic event occurred last Sunday in the Premier League. The championship broke a record by having the youngest player in the category on its fields. It is Ethan Nwaneri, a 15-year-old teenager who entered during the Arsenal vs Brendfort match.
The presence of the player was one of the surprises of the match, which ended with a resounding 3-0 victory for Mikel Arteta's team.
Ethan Nwaneri debuts at 15 years old
At just 15 years old, Nwaneri became the youngest player to play in the Premier League. The teenager came on as a substitute for Fabio Vieira in the 91st minute for the Gunners.
The footballer spent just 181 seconds on the field, and although he didn't have much time to show his skills, his entry surpassed the record set by Harvey Elliott in 2019, who made his debut at 16 years old with Fulham.
Mikel Arteta's decision, when the match was already closed, surprised many as they only expected the teenager to be on the substitutes' list.
Arsenal is currently in first place in the table with 18 points. The goal scorers in this eighth matchday were: William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus, and Fabio Vieira.
What do we know about Ethan Nwaneri?
Ethan Nwaneri is of English nationality with Nigerian heritage. He was born in 2007 and has been part of Arsenal's youth club since he was 9 years old. According to the Transfermarkt website, he plays as an attacking midfielder as his main position and as a forward and left winger as his secondary positions.
Everything seems to indicate that the young man would have the qualities to fit into the team in the future since he played for the U18 team at the age of 14 and for the U21 team this season.
It is still unknown what Arteta has planned for this young man in the upcoming matches, as the injuries to Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko may have accelerated his entry.
