Chelsea has opened an investigation to clarify the alleged racist insults against Tottenham's South Korean attacker, Son Heung-min, at Stamford Bridge during Sunday's Premier League match, which ended in a draw (2-2), the London club announced on Thursday.

The club stated that they are ready to take "firmer action" against their own fans if the facts are proven.

"Chelsea Football Club believes that any form of discriminatory behavior is utterly abhorrent. This has no place at Chelsea or in any of our communities," the club said in a statement.

"However, there still exist these so-called supporters who shame Chelsea FC, our coaches, our players, our staff, and our true fans," the club continued.

Chelsea has already imposed lifetime bans on fans found guilty of similar behavior in the past.

Each seat at Stamford Bridge now includes instructions on how to report racist incidents as part of the club's efforts to eradicate them. AFP
