Spanish international Thiago Alcántara, who had to be substituted on Saturday in Liverpool's match against Fulham (2-2), suffers a hamstring injury and could be out of action for four to six weeks. This injury further reduces the German coach's options in midfield, as he cannot count on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or young Curtis Jones due to physical problems.
The midfield was already identified as the weakest area of the club, but the Liverpool technical director said the club would have already reinforced that area if they had deemed it necessary.

"I am happy with the strength, size, and quality of my squad. We have injuries. Now it is a question of how long the players will be out and there are different solutions," the coach said in the press conference prior to Monday's match against Crystal Palace.
He also explained that "one, and there are many, is the transfer market, but that only makes sense if you can bring in the right player, not just any player."
Furthermore, Jürgen Klopp stated that "if the right solution were out there, we would have already done it. We are not stubborn at Liverpool, we don't say 'There is no way we will bring in someone'."
The absence of the Spanish midfielder could give minutes to Naby Keita, who, according to the German coach, would already be available for Monday's game after being left out of the Premier League debut due to illness.
Liverpool's options without Thiago Alcántara
Youthful Harvey Elliott, who renewed his commitment to the 'red' club until 2027 on Friday and has already had minutes in Fulham, or veteran James Milner are two other options that could appear in the starting lineup due to Thiago's injury.
