After having a preseason where they were able to polish some details to face the upcoming season, Liverpool will have their first trial by fire this weekend when they face Manchester City for the Community Shield. Luis Diaz, of course, could lift his third title with the Reds in less than a year since his arrival.

The Colombian has had a somewhat inconsistent performance in preparation matches, as beyond generating a penalty against RB Leipzig, he has not been able to score or provide any assists. However, Jürgen Klopp is patient and believes that the former Porto player still has a lot to improve in order to become a more consistent player.

The German coach considers that the 'Guajiro' belongs to the 'new blood' they have brought to Liverpool, just like recent signings Darwin Núñez and Fábio Carvalho. Therefore, he hopes that as the matches go by, they will be able to show their full potential.

"We have to get used to it again. We brought some fresh blood, Luis (Diaz) is still in that category, and of course Darwin (Núñez) and Fábio (Carvalho). It's good for all of us. We said many times, this game only really works if you can work on the training field," Klopp stated in the press conference prior to the match against the 'Citizens'.

"You need time on the field to work on tactical things, defensively, offensively... And the only time we really have is preseason, that's why we love it and use it as best as we can," added the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

Luis Díaz's numbers in Liverpool

Since his arrival in early 2022, Luis Díaz has played 26 official matches with Liverpool, 7 in the Champions League, 13 in the Premier League, 5 in the FA Cup, and 1 in the Carabao Cup. Additionally, the 25-year-old winger recently played minutes in the friendly match against Salzburg (1-0 defeat), the last match prior to the Community Shield - to be played this Saturday, July 30th at 11:00 a.m. (Colombia time).
